What are Shared Screens?
Sharing screens with other MarketSmith members lets you exchange screening criteria results with other investors for commentary and rating. When you create a screen, you can designate whether or not you’d like to share it with the community (to learn more, visit Creating Screens). If you share a screen, other members may not modify it; but they may make a copy and modify their own copy.

Accessing Shared Screens
To access shared screens, select the Shared Screens tab on the Community Landing page. Screens are listed in descending chronological order and feature a time/date stamp.
- The results view displays the number of members tracking that screen, the number of comments it has generated, and its rating within the community.
- You can sort to identify the top rated, most recent, most commented on and most tracked shared screens by selecting the corresponding header titles.
- Clicking on the screen title will launch that screen’s Detail lightbox view. From here, you can view the screen, track the screen or post a comment about the screen.
- To find all screens created and shared by a particular member, click on the member’s name link. The numeral located to the right of the member link displays the number of Shared Screens created by that MarketSmith Subscriber. You can also utilize the Tags feature on the Tag Cloud to the right to search for other screens that contain a certain symbol or keywords associated with the screen you’re interested in.

Viewing Shared Screens
To view a screen, click on a title link in the Screens list. The Screen Detail information will appear in a lightbox format. The page that opens will display that screen as well as notes which describe what search parameters were implemented to create it. You will also be able to view comments posted by other members and compose your own comments.
To comment on a screen, type your thoughts in the Add a Comment text field provided and click Submit. You can also rate and track screens from other members so that the good screens get noticed and the not-so-good screens are called out. Rate a screen by selecting the corresponding star. Your rating is indicated by the black outlined star. Track a screen by selecting the Track This Screen link.

To share a screen you’ve created in the MarketSmith screener, select the Share button in the Screener task panel. The Share button will only be active for User-created screens. A lightbox will appear over the Screener tool featuring the screen’s title and what category it falls into stock screen or fund screen followed by several options that allow you to designate screen features like sharing permissions, a screen description, and search tags.
You may share your screen with the entire MarketSmith investor community, give privileges to a select group of members, or not share the screen at all. If you choose the “share with specific members from My Contacts” radio button, a dropdown list of names/groups will display based on the Contacts list you have already designated in My Profile. Click here for detailed instruction on how to manage your contacts. Select the checkbox next to the Member or Group you’d like to share that screen with. Once you’ve accepted those changes, hit the Share button and a brief confirmation will then appear listing the designated members or groups.
Here you may enter a brief description of the screen. Once created, this information will appear in the Screen Properties next to the List Panel when that screen is active in the Screener window.
Tags help categorize and differentiate screens, making it easier for other users to find your screen when searching for a specific type of screen. From the list provided, select as many Tags as you feel apply to your screen. You can also assign custom tags by entering them in the Additional Tags text field.
When you’re satisfied with the detail information you’ve entered, select the Close link to save your changes. Your sharing preferences for that screen have been set.
